Anyone who follows the local news is likely aware of the drastic increase in property taxes, especially for lakefront parcels. The local press has followed the situation closely, including all the lawsuits and legislative initiatives to address the problem. Even papers such as The New York Times have addressed the problem.
Growing up here, we never really though of owning waterfront property as a burden. Plenty of people had houses and lots that had been in the family for generations, and a lot of my school friends who were solidly middle and even lower middle class had nice homes on a lake.
Now of course everything has gone crazy, and it is nearly impossible to pay the taxes. Our family home on Oseetah Lake was built 30 years ago, and is a very comfortable and well built home. It is by no means ostentatious or one of those twigwork Great Camps that have sprouted up over the past couple of decades, but it is taxed as prime waterfront so now we have to rent it out.
HERE is the website. 400 feet of southern exposure lakefront on Oseetah Lake. Beautiful views of the Sawtooth Range. Right across the lake from Pine Pond, one of the most excellent small ponds in the Adirondacks.
